Christopher Figueroa is a heartfelt glass artist from Los Angeles, California, whose work offers an intimate exploration of the social issues he encountered during his adolescence.
Through his creations, Figueroa provides viewers with approachable insights into his upbringing, using glass as a medium to reflect the complexities of inner-city life.
Figueroa’s journey into hot-glass making began in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2016, where he quickly found mentorship under esteemed glass artist Jason Chakravarty. Over the past eight years, Figueroa has honed his craft through workshops, residencies, and teaching alongside celebrated glass artists such as Therman Statom, Scott Darlington, Jamex & Einar De la Torre, and Chakravarty.
In 2018, Figueroa held his first solo exhibition at Penland School of Craft in North Carolina. The exhibition was a personal memorial to his uncle, whose life was tragically lost to gang violence, featuring a larger-than-life liquor bottle as a centerpiece. His second solo exhibition, We're Still Here, was held in 2022 at The Melting Point in Sedona, Arizona. This powerful body of work delved into the blind loyalty surrounding gang culture and its impact on society.
In April 2024, Figueroa took on the role of Education Coordinator at DMG School Project in St. Petersburg, Florida. This nonprofit organization, operated by Duncan McClellan, is focused on educating and inspiring personal growth through glass art. Figueroa aims to use this platform to continue creating art that addresses the social challenges facing inner-city communities while sharing the transformative and healing power of glassmaking with at-risk populations.
