Born in St. Petersburg, FL in 1953, Eric Folsom embarked on a life that would be deeply intertwined with the world of art and craftsmanship. In 1973, he left Gulfport to explore new opportunities in Washington, D.C., working as a bicycle messenger. It was during this time, in 1974, that Eric Folsom met a group of artists living on a 150-acre property adjacent to Shenandoah National Park. This encounter marked the beginning of a significant transformation in his life and career.
Intrigued by the artistic community and the serene landscape, Eric Folsom began frequenting the site, a ninety-mile bicycle ride from the city. In 1977, he fully embraced this new artistic environment by moving there and starting an apprenticeship under the tutelage of George Anderson. From Anderson, Eric Folsom learned the art of shaping and polishing metal, mastering the use of an oxygen/acetylene torch for braze welding, and navigating the complexities of exhibiting at art and craft shows. His journey with metal sculpting deepened over the years, evolving into a profound passion for working with bronze and copper. This craft not only offered a continuous learning experience but also immense joy in the creation process. In 1996, life came full circle as Eric Folsom and his wife returned to St. Petersburg to care for his aging father.
Eric Folsom is deeply grateful for the lifelong journey in metal artistry that began in 1974. Through decades of dedication and exploration, he has remained committed to his craft, continually finding inspiration and satisfaction in the transformative power of metal.
