Joyce Curvin, born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, grew up in a family that championed recycling, creativity, and a deep appreciation for nature. This nurturing environment, along with her sister as a constant companion in creativity, led Joyce to spend countless hours exploring a variety of crafts. From sewing to building, she learned to invent with diverse tools and materials from a young age.
Joyce's artistic journey was enriched through private and group art lessons throughout her school years, continuing into her college education with a focus on ceramics. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Stetson University, blending her artistic talents with business acumen. Joyce's professional path led her into the creative field of visual merchandising and store design, where she developed a successful career working with both independent retailers and larger malls.
Despite her business achievements, Joyce never ceased to create art. She experimented with various mediums and techniques, eventually discovering a profound connection with paper mache and mixed media sculpture. Today, she is best known for her Art-Official Pets©—a whimsical collection of dogs, cats, and birds crafted from paper mache. These creations embody her lifelong passion for art and nature, each piece infused with character and a playful spirit.
